Last week, during the spoilers and previews, we were introduced to a new type of card coming in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set for MTG. While theorizing about the different things we may see coming from Magic the Gatherings’ first venture into a Dungeons and Dragons world, I had many thoughts. The dungeon cards were something I had thought about, but I had thought about them beings more like a leveling mechanic saga. I was close, just the wrong type of card.

Honestly, Class type cards were not something I had considered. I thought they would use some of the main features of the classes, like rage or sneak attack, but I had never considered them being their own card type. So, I’m sure you have seen them floating around online and read up a bit on each one. So I’m just going to cover a few of my favorites and see what you guys think! (At the bottom of the article you can see each card)
Let’s start with the ones that cost so little and do so much that you can’t ignore them. While a few of these will be good in standard, the commander format is where I will be using these the most. The Wizard, Warlock, and Cleric all have awesome abilities that even if you never leveled them up, they would be worth the one mana. All 3 of these happen to uncommon as well so they should be easy to find and not cost much.

The Sorcerer Class will go directly into my Mizzix of the Izmagnus Commander deck. Being able to make my instants and sorcery spells cheaper by using my creatures and getting the class to level 3 just fits the plan so well already. Then once at level 3, every instant and sorcery spell doing damage to EACH opponent is just perfection. Just gives this already strong deck one for canon to fire.
The last one for me is the Barbarian Class. While it is not the best by far, there is something about the gambling nature of it that draws me in. The pure chaos this card could create would be a fun deck to fun for me. I’m sure there will be plenty of cards in the new set to run a standard deck with this class. Can’t wait to see it in action. It May not be top tier but it will but entertaining.
